Onboarding, also known as the induction process, is a vital tool for employees to feel welcome in the institution, to know their tasks and their colleagues. Not to mention, it makes it easy to achieve business success.

What is onboarding in a company?

Onboarding also means induction, the induction of a new employee to a company. However, it is much more than that.

Currently, what is known as onboarding is a concept used in human resources, to refer to the process of orienting employees ; focused on helping retention in general.

The onboarding process is a plan designed by the company, so that employees can join their new position in the most efficient way. This plan must have as objective the knowledge of the organization of the company; and the duration of this process depends on the position you occupy.

Onboarding focuses on accelerating the incorporation of new talent into the institution. It focuses on placing and orienting them so that they adapt to the corporate culture.

This process is not only about telling the new employee their functions or giving them a process manual, it is also about getting them involved. Meeting their colleagues, knowing their roles and who they will be dealing with on a daily basis, as well as the physical environment (if there is one) are all part of a good onboarding process.

Types of onboarding

Although onboarding is about the integration of new talents in every sense, there are different ways of doing it; and these ways are classified according to their digitization process.

Onboarding On-Site

This is the conventional method, and it is the one used by most companies that carry out their functions in person. It is based on the employee learning everything about the company and those who make it up physically.

An example of this type of onboarding is that the employee knows the location of their work and rest spaces, their colleagues and their locations within the physical plant of the company, in addition to other relevant topics.

This method also applies to security, as the new member presents physical identifications to access and use the company spaces.

Onboarding Semi-On-Site

In these cases, the company offers digital resources that help them to insert into the institution, but even so, they must attend in person to learn more or complement their induction. This method is used by companies that offer the home office option to their employees.

Digital Onboarding

This is known as digital (or remote) onboarding. Here, the entire process is digitized, and the employee can have their induction online, without going to a physical location.

Previously, this type of onboarding was carried out with remote employees who only provided specific services or freelancers; However, since the confinement due to Covid-19, it has become popular with all kinds of new employees.
